¡¡¡¡Greg Woodburn, a university student, spends a lot of time cleaning sports shoes. Some of them once belonged to him; some belonged to his friends. But soon the shoes will have new owners, poor children in the USA and 20 other countries, thanks to Greg¡¯s Share Our Soles(Ьµ×) (S.O.S) charity.
¡¡¡¡Greg was a high school running star in a small town in California. He had to stop running for months because his knee was injured. ¡°I started thinking about all the things I got from running, the health, the friendships and the confidence.¡± he says. And I realized there are children who don¡¯t even have shoes.
¡¡¡¡Greg collected his own sports shoes and then called his friends and the town. His aim was to have 100 pairs by Christmas 2006. When the number climbed to more than 500 pairs. Greg know that he could collect sports shoes all year round.
¡¡¡¡Now he has set up collection boxes in his town. So far, S.O.S has collected and donated more than 3,000 pairs of shoes. And Greg has cleaned almost all of them. ¡°People think of it as duty work,¡± he says, ¡°but I like doing it, because I feel happy when I¡¯m doing it. It¡¯s not work I want to pass on to someone else.¡±
¡¡¡¡In just three years, Greg has started three branches(²æ³µÎ¬ÐÞÅàѵѧУ,²¿) of S.O.S and there are more and more sports shoes.
¡¡¡¡For many poor children who have received the shoes mean opportunity. Two young boys in southern California used to go to school on alternate days(¸ôÈÕ) because they both shared a pair of shoes. They were too big for one boy and too small for the other. Thanks to S.O.S, each brother received his own pair of shoes. The boys now go to school every day. When they graduate, they say they will help others, just as Greg helped them.

¡¡¡¡Did you have a favorite plastic toy when you were a child? Did it break? Did your parents throw it away? Well, I know where it is. It¡¯s floating(Ư¸¡)in the Pacific Ocean. Well, let me explain how it 89  (get) there.
¡¡¡¡Many countries put their garbage in the Pacific. Most of the garbage sinks. But plastic floats and   90  (move). The North Pacific Gyre(»·Á÷) pulls things towards the middle. So, all the plastic ends up in the same place. One scientist says the area looks just like ¡°plastic soup¡±.
¡¡¡¡This ¡°plastic soup¡±   91  (discover) about ten years ago. Since that time the amount of plastic in his area  92  (increase) a lot. And this plastic will not just go away, it takes 400 years for plastic to degrade(²æ³µÎ¬ÐÞÅàѵѧУ,½â). And, even worse, fish and sea birds are eating the plastic. They think it looks like food. The plastic doesn¡¯t kill them directly, but the fish (who are not smart!) think they are full. So, they stop   93  (eat) and die of hunger. Dolphins and whales will also eat plastic and die.
¡¡¡¡Governments are starting to work together to clean up this area, but it will take many years. That¡¯s why we should always try  94  (recycle) plastic... even our old toys.

¡¡¡¡Our teachers always give us some homework to do every day. I often do my homework after school. My parents also ask me to finish my homework on time. It takes me about two or three hours to do my homework. To speak the truth, after a day¡¯s work at school, I¡¯m really tired. And after school I prefer to watch TV or play with my friends. But homework makes me exhausted. I know doing homework helps me to review what I study at school. But sometimes I even don¡¯t know what I do. Because of homework, I can¡¯t spend my time on my hobby. I have many interests. But homework takes up most of my spare time. What should I do?
